In 1991, your head coach took over a program that had its glory years, but was experiencing some significant challenges.  The team suffered a demoralizing 1991 campaign finishing the season with an 0-9 record.  But head coach Paul Vosburgh and assistant coach Jim Scachetti didn't quit. They kept believing. They trusted the process. And they never lost focus on their vision of making the St. John Fisher Cardinals the premier football power in the East.

After a solid four years in the mid 90’s, including a national ranking in 1995, the program suffered a few more setbacks. However, under Coach Vosburh, the program's vision and determination wouldn't waver. And 30+ years later, you are graduating from a college and a football program that is a perennial contender on the national stage.

​

As football alums from the early years, we are proud to call ourselves Cardinals. And we are proud to be on the ground level of this organization that welcomes you as Cardinal Football Alums!  The pain of your career being over may still sting. However, we know that sting will soon turn to pride when you find yourself (perhaps for the first time in your life) watching your former team from the stands.

You will hopefully watch for many years to come, eventually bringing your children to root on the Cardinals as we all do. We have enjoyed the trips to NCAA playoff games that you have ‘taken’ us to. And you may not realize there are hundreds of former players out there, just like us, that you have made proud with your stellar four-year run as members of this team and family.

​

Coach Vosburgh has taught us all that hard work, team and family are the pillars for a successful life. We heard this message three decades ago, and guess what? He is right! He cared tremendously for us during our four year run, such that we grew to become good players, and then good citizens, good fathers and proud alums. You have heard the message. Now take that message forth and join us as CARDINALS FOR LIFE!

 

Welcome to the rest of your ‘careers’ as Cardinals. The career of being fans in the stands, supporters of the program, friends and Cardinal brothers for life.
